IOM: The Covid-19 ban has affected more than 300,000 migrants.

The Covid-19 spread ban and mitigation measures fronted by various countries has affected more than 300,000 migrants, all of whom are interested in leaving their countries for a better life, the IOM has reported.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that although the influx of migrants has not stopped but the number of migrants has decreased sharply due to the various restrictions on Covid-19.

There has been a decline in the number of migrants flocking to Yemen across Somali and Djibouti waters to cross into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which borders the country, according to an IOM report released yesterday.

The closure of the borders, the organisation say, is the reason for the reduced movement of migrants who travel by land to coastal towns and most of them continue on their boats.
Those who have stopped the movement include: Somalia, Djibouti and Yemen as a transit point for migrants and also migrants as they cross the coasts and boarders.

There was an increase in the number of IDPs by 2020 to 6.5 million, up from an average of 6.3 in 2019, according to world migration report shared with the United Nations.

For this year 2021, which will be submitted in December, the number is expected to increase further as the conflict in northern Ethiopia has forced thousands of people to flee Tigray.
