Hormuud Salaam Foundation has been awarded the Africa Social Impact Leadership Award at the 10th African Business Leadership Awards held during the ALM Africa Summit in London. The award recognises the Foundation’s extensive humanitarian and development work across Somalia.
The ceremony took place at The Landmark London and the House of Lords, gathering hundreds of dignitaries, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society representatives from across the continent.
Hormuud Salaam Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hormuud Telecom and Salaam Somali Bank, was recognised for its wide-ranging contributions to improving access to education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and disaster relief in some of Somalia’s most vulnerable communities.
Receiving the award on behalf of the organisation, CEO Abdullahi Nur Osman said the recognition reflects the Foundation’s commitment to rebuilding lives and fostering opportunity in a country still recovering from decades of conflict and instability.
“This award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to building a brighter future for our communities in Somalia,” said Osman. “We believe that true leadership lies in creating opportunities for all and fostering resilience in the face of challenges.”
Organisers of the ALM Africa Summit praised the Foundation’s approach to philanthropy, describing it as a leading example of how corporate institutions can contribute meaningfully to national development and social recovery.
The ALM Africa Summit, now in its tenth edition, is one of the continent’s most prominent leadership and policy gatherings. This year’s theme, “Africa Forward: Powering Leadership, Investments, and Competitiveness,” brought together over 300 global and African leaders. The summit also hosted side events, including the UK-Africa Policy and Business Leaders Roundtable and the Africa Health Forum.
The Africa Social Impact Leadership Award is reserved for organisations demonstrating measurable, long-term impacts on the well-being and development of African communities. The Hormuud Salaam Foundation’s nomination cited its successful delivery of healthcare services to underserved populations, education programs for displaced youth, rapid disaster response, and microfinance initiatives aimed at empowering women and young entrepreneurs.
The recognition of Hormuud Salaam Foundation comes amid a broader push for local solutions to development challenges across Africa, as homegrown organisations continue to step into leadership roles in driving social and economic transformation.
