The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has successfully repatriated a number of young migrants from Libya who were detained in Libyan prisons and now received in Mogadishu.
A total of 94 migrants, five of them women, have been held captive in Libya for several years and held hostage have returned back to their country.
The migrants landed at Aden Adde International Airport in the early hours of this morning, where they were welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdisaid Muse Ali and other federal government officials.
Speaking to the media, Minister Abdisaid Muse said that the federal government of Somalia had succeeded in efforts to repatriate them, and that President Farmajo had recently discussed with the authorities in Libya the release of the detained youths in Libya.
Some of the returnees who spoke to the media said they were happy to be back into their country, thanking the Federal Government officials, and narrated the challenges they have while they were away from their home country.
It is not the first time that young migrants have been repatriated to their homeland, and it has been preceded by similar efforts by the Somali government to secure their release from Libyan prisons.
The youth are in pursuit of better employment opportunities and living standards but most of them ultimately ended up suffering myriad of challenges including detention, death, abduction among others.
