Fighting between Ethiopian troops and Al-Shabaab militants broke out in Dinsor district of Bay region, the fighting started with mortar shells fired at one of the Ethiopian military bases in the district.
Various sources confirmed that the fighting resulted in deaths and injuries to the both fighting parties of the Federal Government of Ethiopia and Al-Shabaab and residents suffered casualties from the bullets.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, and a statement from al-Shabaab media outlets said mortars and live ammunition were fired at Ethiopian military bases in Dinsor.
The statement added that when the Ethiopian troops came out of their base Al-Shabaab attacked with mortars, a direct battle broke out between the two fighting sides.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian troops on their way to the camp to reinforce their colleagues were also attacked by Al-Shabaab militants but no casualties reported.
In some areas of the South West, Ethiopian troops are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) while some are not registered with the African Union and the United Nations Security Council, which provides funding for the AU force.
