EASF Policy Organs Meetings Conclude Technical Sessions in Mogadishu.

Somalia marked a significant milestone in regional security cooperation this week with the successful conclusion of the technical sessions at the 34th Policy Organs Meetings of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), hosted in Mogadishu for the first time.

Technical delegates from EASF member states spent several days in Somalia’s capital discussing security coordination, defense strategy, institutional development, and mechanisms for collective regional response to emerging threats.

The event, seen as a show of confidence in Somalia’s improving security environment, reinforces the country’s growing role in shaping the security architecture of Eastern Africa.

The high-level conference will officially close on July 19, when Defence Ministers from EASF member states convene for a Ministerial Session to adopt the key outcomes and recommendations from the technical meetings.

This is the first time Somalia has chaired and hosted the EASF Policy Organs Meetings, after taking over from Rwanda in December 2024. The country’s leadership in the regional peace and security bloc comes as part of a broader diplomatic resurgence and ongoing national stabilization efforts.
