New details have emerged regarding a cargo ship flying the flag of the Comoros that was intercepted by Puntland FMS security forces off the coast of Bareedo, a coastal district in the Ras Caseyr region of northeastern Somalia.
The vessel, identified as Sea World, reportedly departed from Turkey. According to emerging reports, the ship was allegedly carrying a consignment of weapons and military supplies.
Well-placed sources confirmed that the ship encountered rough weather conditions in the Red Sea, forcing it to divert toward the Bari region’s coastline, where it was subsequently intercepted by Puntland State authorities.
It is believed that the vessel was scheduled to arrive at the Port of Mogadishu on 21 July to offload its cargo.
As of now, neither the Federal Government of Somalia nor the Puntland Federal Member State administration has officially commented on the circumstances surrounding the ship or its reported contents.
