Burundian troops operating under ATMIS conduct joint operation in Mahaday following El-Baraf attack.

Burundian troops operating at ATMIS have launched a search operation in parts of Mahaday district in Middle Shabelle region.

The troops are searching vehicles and occupants, people and parts of the neighborhoods under Mahaday, especially those close to the African Union bases in Mahaday.

The operation was preceded by a series of mortar attacks on Burundian military bases while they themselves responded although no casualties were reported.

Residents in several areas near Burundian military bases have fled the area following fears of a confrontation between ATMIS and al-Shabaab.

In some areas, helicopters are seen hovering over, and ATMIS forces have strengthened their bases in the Middle Shabelle region following the El-Baraf attack on 3 May 2022.
