Close confidant reports from the border between Galgaduud and Middle Shabele indicate that heavy airstrikes were conducted last night against members of the Al-Shabaab group in the area.
The strikes specifically targeted the region around Hareera Culusow, a locality controlled by the militants.
According to sources in the area, the airstrikes hit Al-Shabaab key bases where numerous militia members and senior leaders were present.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the attacks were aimed at dismantling the group’s operations in this strategic region.
The reports further state that many Al-Shabaab members were killed in the strikes as they congregated in the targeted locations. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the total casualties incurred by the group as a result of the airstrikes.
The sound of the airstrikes was reportedly heard in several areas far from the immediate vicinity of the attacks, indicating the intensity of the bombardment. This has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict and the effectiveness of military operations against Al-Shabaab.
As of now, there has been no official statement from the Federal Government of Somalia or its international partners regarding the aftermath of the airstrikes.
