Somalia and Pakistan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation in defence, security and military capability development.
The agreement was signed by Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, during the Somali minister’s official visit to Pakistan, where he is leading a high-level delegation.
According to officials, the MoU establishes a framework for enhanced cooperation in “counterterrorism operations, military training programmes, defence capability development, security coordination and the exchange of military expertise” .
As part of the visit, Minister Fiqi and his delegation toured the Defence Industrial Production Regulatory Authority (DIPRA), where they were received by the agency’s Director General, Lieutenant General Muhammad Chiragh Haider.
The agreement marks a significant step in strengthening defence relations between Mogadishu and Islamabad and reflects both countries’ commitment to expanding long-term security and military cooperation.
Somalia has in recent years sought to diversify its international defence partnerships as it continues efforts to strengthen its armed forces and enhance its capacity to combat terrorism and safeguard national security.
