The Somalia national women’s under-17 team defeated their Sudanese counterparts 8–2 in a match played as part of the CECAFA tournament currently taking place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Somalia’s girls dominated the game over 90 minutes, showcasing an attacking style built on confidence and strong teamwork.
Although the team earned three points, their performance was not enough to advance: with the Group A standings taken into account, the Somalia U-17 girls were eliminated from the CECAFA tournament.
The victory, however, remains a significant achievement and could serve as inspiration for Somali girls who aspire to play football.
Despite the disappointment of being knocked out, the convincing scoreline highlights the progress of women’s football in Somalia and sets a positive benchmark for the future.
Coaches and supporters can now have a courage to build on this momentum by focusing on development programs, more competitive fixtures, and continued support for young players across the country.
