The Supreme Military Court of Somalia has ordered that overseas medical treatment be provided to a police officer who was injured and left disabled after a blast targeting a vehicle he was in while travelling for official duties
In the ruling, the court stated that the officer Alasow Hirabe Ali, a member of the police, particularly the mobile quick-response units was harmed during an anti-security operation in which he was accompanying duties in Greater Mogadishu.
According to the allegations presented in court, he was injured when his police vehicle was targeted and attacked by an explosive device.
Presiding over the case, the Court’s Chair, General Liban Ali Yaroow, concluded that the relevant authorities including the Ministry of Security, the Police Command and the Banadir region administration must take full responsibility for ensuring the officer receives proper care, including treatment abroad.
Before the court, Alasow Hirabe Ali described how his condition could not be adequately treated inside Somalia. He further explained that when he was taken to India, the plan to continue treatment there could not continue due to financial constraints
General Liban Ali Yaroow said the officer was injured while bravely serving the country and its people, including in efforts to resist attacks and threats targeting the capital.
The court noted that the injury resulted from the blast, which left him unable to function normally.
The judge emphasized that the Ministry of Security, the Police Command, and the Banadir authorities must immediately secure the medical support the officer requires and fully cover his treatment moving forward.
“A deputy officer identified as Alasow Hirabe who was injured while in line of duty serving his country and has now become disabled,after targeted attack and unable to do anything, the Ministry of Security, the Police Command, and the Banadir region authorities must immediately provide medical support for the officer.” said the Chair of the Supreme Military Court General Liban Ali Yarrow.
