The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, has officially taken over a military training facility located in Baydhabo, which has been established and supported by the United Kingdom for some time.
In a meeting with the UK Ambassador to Somalia, Ambassador Charles Nicholas King, and senior officials from the British embassy, Minister Fiqi discussed the transition of the facility and the ongoing efforts to equip the Somali National Army.
This facility, now fully transferred to the Ministry of Defense, is expected to play a significant role in training, upgrading, and professionalizing the armed forces of Somalia, particularly those stationed in the South-West region, to enhance the fight against Al-Shabaab (AS).
Minister Fiqi expressed gratitude to the UK government for its support to Somalia, specifically highlighting its commitment to improving the capabilities of the Somali National Army.
The transfer of this military facility underscores the continued collaboration between Somalia and the UK in strengthening the nation’s defense capabilities and addressing security challenges in the region.
