Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, received wounded Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers at Mogadishu’s Adan Abdulle International Airport on Tuesday. The soldiers, injured in ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab in HirShabelle State, were airlifted to the capital for medical treatment.
President Mohamud commended the bravery and sacrifice of the injured soldiers, referring to them as “heroes” in the fight against terrorism. He wished them a speedy recovery and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting its troops.
“Our forces are the backbone of Somalia’s security and stability. We will ensure they receive the best medical care and the necessary resources to continue their mission,” the President stated.
The arrival of the wounded soldiers underscores the intensity of ongoing military operations in HirShabelle State, where Somali forces, backed by local militias, have been engaged in efforts to eliminate Al-Shabaab’s presence in the region.
Government officials have reiterated their resolve to continue offensive operations against the militant group while providing full support to the soldiers on the front lines.
