Somalia’s Police Commissioner, General Asad Osman, on Wednesday hosted the Italian Ambassador to Somalia, Pier Mario Dacco Coppi, at the Somali Police Force headquarters in Mogadishu. The high-level meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations in the critical areas of policing and counterterrorism.
According to a statement from the Somali Police Force, the discussions emphasized the importance of joint efforts in enhancing security measures and combating terrorism, which remains a significant challenge in Somalia and the broader region.
General Osman expressed Somalia’s appreciation for Italy’s longstanding support in capacity building for Somali police forces and its contributions to fostering peace and stability in the country.
Ambassador Coppi reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to continuing its partnership with Somalia, particularly in advancing the capabilities of the Somali Police Force through training programs, technical assistance, and sharing of best practices in counterterrorism strategies.
This meeting comes as Somalia intensifies its efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen its national security apparatus, with international support playing a pivotal role in these endeavors.
