Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre Urges Somali Youth: ‘Defend Your Country with Courage and Unity’

In a passionate address, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre of the Federal Government of Somalia has called upon the youth to safeguard their land, echoing the valor of their ancestors who fought for the country’s defense. The Prime Minister emphasized that the role of the youth is paramount, urging them to unite in protecting “their existence, honor, and the nation.”

Highlighting the significance of protecting the people, particularly the youth, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre expressed gratitude to the young individuals in Somaliland for their courageous and patriotic rejection of what he termed a “false agreement.” The agreement, announced by Abiy Ahmed and Muse Bihi on January 1, 2024, pertained to areas in Somaliland, particularly the Northern Regions.

“I thank the young people of Somaliland for their brave, honest, Somali-like, patriotic rejection of this. I urge all Somali young people, especially those of Somaliland, to stand up for the defense of the country,” stated Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre.

The call to action comes amidst growing protests by youths against the agreement, with sentiments of vehement opposition to Ethiopia’s potential encroachment on Somali seas. Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre issued a stern warning to potential invaders, asserting that “they would face fierce resistance and leave with nothing but casualties.”

As tensions escalate, the Prime Minister’s rallying cry for unity and defense echoes a shared sentiment among Somali youth, particularly in Somaliland. The call to protect the nation’s sovereignty reverberates, emphasizing the deep-rooted connection between the youth and their commitment to safeguarding their homeland.
