Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is a peace Maker and a community elder. His persuasive talk has seen the community make a breakthrough in the peace deal.
On Friday, President Hassan held meeting with traditional elders and religious leaders in Adale District Hirshabelle State and assured them that his government will back their efforts to end the inter clan conflict in the area and to make a final truce that will see a permanent ceasefire that anyone who breaches will have the force of the government against them.
The President while appealing to them urged locals to unite in the fight against terrorists which is common enemy and that “AS group are inciting the community against each other having felt the burden of the Somali National Army and liberation efforts.”
The call to draw their attention to the bigger picture and that they were disenfranchised by the Alshabab group appears to have resonated well with many community elders and that their areas will lag behind in development agendas that will be dragged by battling security challenges.
The President said the community should see the bigger thing and unite in the face of common enemy urging them that any disunity will distablize the area.
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was in Adale district,seat with the community and declared support for a call for peace issued by scholars, traditional elders and community groups, which will strengthen the reconciliation of communities, the elimination of illegal roadblocks and the acceleration of the war against Al-Shabaab.
“A Muslim who kills his brother is a murderer. He does not belong to the same family or tribe. He is a murderer they have no tribe and the law should be passed,” said the president.
In the end, the President’s efforts have seen a consensus that achieved a peace deal backed by both warring parties that will see serious consequences for anyone who breaches.
Anyone who breaches will be dealt with as individual and will face the force of the law through the military court.
Finally, both warring parties signed the peace deal which strengthens solidarity and indicates that the community should unite in the fight against al-Shabaab.
Clan clashes in the Adale district killed 50 people and destroyed homes in the affected communities.
There were peace efforts before which had in the past not seen the light of the day but President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has sat down with the community elders as a leader and mediator to see the assurance they need to effect the truce.
